Who I Am

Lauren Roberts

At school, I am a six-time Dean's list student at the University of Missouri's School of Journalism. My interest area is Strategic Communications with an emphasis in account management and public relations. I am graduating cum laude in May 2021 with a minor in psychology and a certificate in diversity and cultural inclusion.

At work, I have completed a variety of jobs that have helped me grow in multiple different skill sets. From completing an integrated campaign for AT&T 5G to managing 45 performers in a parade, I have learned excellent time management, leadership and organizational skills. I dream to work in an account management position where I can dedicate my skills and build strong relationships with my team.

At home, I am an avid painter and sweet tea enthusiast with two dogs by my side. I learned how to cook over quarantine and now fill my Instagram stories with delicious food. After my career, I hope to retire in the mountains.

Ad2KC Public Service

Account Executive

I have never been one to relax and instead jump at any opportunity to learn more of the advertising world. That being said, when I won AAF-KC Foundation's scholarship program and found out more about their initiatives, I knew I wanted to get involved.

Ad2KC Public Service dedicates time to helping a non-profit grow, and our client this year was Uncover KC. We met for a client briefing with them and got to work writing creative briefs and organizing deliverables. We also transitioned into presenting social media trends and how they should best position themselves online to reach their crafter target audiences.

Management of Strategic Communications - Application Only Course

Account Lead

This course is designed to teach students about the world of account management while providing us with real client experience. Our client for the semester was Allstate, who asked us to increase pet insurance quotes among first-time buyers.

I was eager to be team leader, and led my team of six from the client briefing to the client presentation. I was excited to get to know my teammates, and foster relationships and teamwork even without ever being able to meet them in person. I learned how my team best worked on a Zoom platform, and knew exactly what to prepare ahead of meetings to increase participation.

You can click "Learn More" below to be taken through my team's secondary research, primary research, situation analysis, SWOT analysis, creative brief and final presentation in greater detail.

Corona-cation

Taking this strange time to better myself

I know what you're thinking. "What's she trying to prove quarantining in jeans like that?" Let me catch you up on what has been going on.

I was accepted to study abroad in Prague and spend my summer working for McCann International to create a campaign for a client of theirs. Then, COVID-19 happened. To say I was disappointed my study abroad was cancelled would be a drastic understatement.

However, I knew this was a challenging time and many were losing internships. I decided to take this time to grow in my skills, and was accepted into an internship I would not have been able to apply for if it were not remote. I signed up for online training courses from reputable agencies and practiced the Adobe Suites to master them. I may have been sitting around safely in my home, but I was anything but sitting around bored. Click below to find out more of my quarantine reboot.

MU Strategic Communications

Account Executive

I was appointed the account executive of a team of five for the Strategic Writing and Design course in the University of Missouri School of Journalism. I was in charge of scheduling and delegating weekly meetings for my group as well as coordinating online communication. My team created a mock advertising campaign for the Canadian pet food brand Petcurean Go! that ended up wining over the two other groups in our class. My group then went on to present amongst the finalists for an entire lecture hall and a panel of professors. You can click "learn more" to view our campaign.

You can also learn about other classes I have taken in the journalism school and the skills they have given me. My work in public relations, Adobe Creative Suites and Google Analytics are featured in this section as well.

National Blues Museum

Digital Media Marketing Intern

I was in charge of outreach and creating media for the National Blues Museum. In media aspects, I updated Facebook and Instagram accounts with information on museum events as well as any promotional materials from our partnerships. I covered our live music events, both on our Instagram story and on a professional camera, so that the bands have materials to share and promote themselves. In terms of outreach, I designed graphics such as calendars, promotional billboards and flyers that are displayed around the museum. I distributed my graphics to hotels in downtown St. Louis to build better relationships and promote our live music events to people from out of town. I also helped build relationships during private events, company buyouts and press events. Lastly, I made sure our members were updated on the latest events by sending out weekly newsletters and special event postcards.

Mizzou Safe Sisters

Director of Public Relations

As one of four executive members, I planned and scheduled presenters to come speak during our meetings. I ran the Safe Sisters Instagram page and executed campaigns to increase involvement and awareness. Women of Mizzou's community would share our posts on their story and respond to questions that related to our organization's mission. Safe Sisters aims to educate Mizzou women on crisis management tactics and resources available to them so they can keep their mental and physical health in check during their time at Mizzou.

Six Flags Entertainment

Mardi Gras Lead / Stage Manager

After completing my freshman year at Mizzou, I got a summer job as a Lead for Six Flags Entertainment during their Mardi Gras festivities. I helped in the organization of the event by assisting the main supervisors, attending safety meetings and even costuming over 100 performers. During the time of the festivities I supervised 45 entertainers and made sure they all got to their specific performing sites throughout the day. I even drove a float in the main parade. Although I only worked four months there before returning to Mizzou, I was named Service Superstar and awarded a scholarship.

Where I Spend My Time

organizations, volunteer opportunities & memberships

AAF allows advertising professionals to present to us students about their experiences. I was lucky enough to be a recipient of the AAF-KC Foundation Scholarship and awarded a mentor in the industry to guide my career journey.

Kappa Delta is a sorority with a mission to inspire confidence in women. We are partnered with the Confidence Coalition to help women see their true potential and know their own worth. We also raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America and the Girl Scouts of America.

This organization is provided through the University of Missouri's School of Journalism to give women a strong support base. As an upperclassman, I am a mentor in the organization and am able to guide underclassmen through classes and questions.

After a selection process, chosen members of Safe Sisters are trained in crisis management in order to act as a resource for women on campus. Our training extends from ending the mental health stigma to having police officers teach us self-defense maneuvers.

A sexual assault prevention organization resulting from the Obama-Biden administration. We hold events on campus where students can sign the pledge to be an active bystander. As a member of the communications board, I spread awareness of these events on social media.

Rainbow House is an emergency relief shelter for youths. They do everything from protecting youths with a troubled home life to allowing a single mother to drop off her children while she has a job interview. I visit Rainbow House to cook and eat meals with the children.

Being one of Kappa Delta's philanthropies, we organize and hold events with the Girl Scouts in hopes to be a positive role model in their lives. We build confidence in these young women with spa days and relaxing yoga time in hopes to spread body positivity.

Camp Kesem is a summer camp for children whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Whether the cancer is impacting the child or a beloved person in their life, the summer camp unites the children under a shared experience and teaches them they are not alone.

MOJO Ad - Application Only Capstone

Campaign Coordinator, Researcher & Video Producer

My first semester with MOJO Ad included researching and creating an integrated campaign for AT&T to improve the health and wellness of college students using 5G technology. My team worked night and day from the secondary research and 300 primary survey respondents to actual software creation. Our ideas are currently being explored for implementation at Mizzou.

In my second semester, my team put together a research ebook and live webcast. We sent a survey to around 730 people aged 18 to 24 asking about the workforce and working from home to see how the pandemic has impacted their opinions. This research webcast was advertised in a social media campaign we developed, and allowed companies such as Target to view our research.

Click "Learn More" for articles from Mizzou in relation to our work with AT&T as well as more details about our campaigns.
