Journalism | Strategic Communications

I take pride knowing I am enrolled in one of the best journalism schools in the country and take advantage of all opportunities that come my way. I have been able to expand my expertise in experience of being an account executive, and mastering a variety of other programs such as Illustrator, Google Analytics and video design.

Advertising Campaign Competition

The School of Journalism at the University of Missouri allows us students to practice creating a full advertising campaign in our classes. For this campaign, our mock client was Canadian pet food brand Petcurean Go! and the objective was rebranding them for an audience of 18 to 24 year olds. I applied to be account executive for this project and was chosen for the role. I managed a team of five, including a creative director, copywriter, and two public relations and social media personnel. Our team won first place in our class and went on to be one of 16 groups to present to a lecture hall of 100 students and professors. The opportunity was an amazing learning experience and the professors were very encouraging of our campaign.

Adobe Suites

This is an example of a mock advertisement I created with Illustrator for the company Soylent. While I am not pursuing a career in the art direction side of agency life, I believe having experience with industry standard creative tools is important to enable better working relationships with project team members.

My classmates didn't believe that I created the strawberry. They thought it was a picture, so that made me happy.

Public Relations

In my public relations course, I completed a 25-paged situation analysis for Swatch. This analysis detailed, among other things, their competition if they were to enter the smart watch industry and outlined other designer watch competitors. You can download the situation analysis below as a sample of my writing.

Google Analytics

This past semester, I was enrolled in the Digital Strategy course under Strategic Communications. Our professor strongly recommended we complete training in Google Analytics so I took the initiative to receive my certificates as well as the Individual Qualification assessment. This paired well with Mimic Pro, a simulator where I managed a $50,000 campaign and drove the campaign to success with the use of advertisements and keyword selection.

Digital Storytelling

I have been interested in video editing since a very young age. I started in middle school on the infamous iMovie, and through high school and college learned both Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere.
This particular video was the final project for my 2018 Mizzou course Digital Storytelling, and I worked in a team of four to get all the shots. The idea behind the film is the innocent romances that occur in a coffee shop, and how they may not be as they seem. The filming process was hard as our male actor and backups bailed on us and other unexpected troubles were accounted for. Therefore, we took a very progressive approach as we used two female leads for the romantic film, which fit perfectly with an image in the coffee shop that you will see. This editing was done solely by me as we all edited our own versions to present to the class. The ending, I know, is corny but it was a solution to the many challenges we faced filming. I tend to focus on the blending of the editing at the beginning.
